King Gizzard Albums Ranked
1. Petrodragon Apocalypse
Appeals to my taste nearly perfectly, Motor Spirit is an incredible opener and on of my top Gizz songs. The production on the record sounds great as well, really heavy sounding. Ekes out over Infest The Rats Nest cause of the more proggy songwriting.
2. Infest the Rats Nest
Really great, lots of really sick riffs and the production is some of their best, feels super heavy. one of their shorter albums but there’s very little filler or weaker tracks. The concept and apocalyptic vibes a lot of the lyrics give off is great.
3. Nonagon Infinity
Quintessential Gizzard album. Really great energy and the way the songs flow into each and quote each other makes the album feel really cohesive. I can never listen to an individual song I always find myself just listening to the entire record as a result.
4. Flying Microtonal Banana
Really love the microtonal sound of this album, makes it feel very unique. The longer songs on this album have a really hypnotic quality to them that makes them fly by despite their length.
5. I’m in Your Mind Fuzz
The band really comes into their own on this album, the production is a step up from their very lo fi early works and the songs are a fair bit strong. The Mind Fuzz suite the album opens with is fantastic.
6. Murder of the Universe
Really like the atmosphere of this album. The overall style of the album and some of the musical callbacks to the earlier releases appeal to me a lot. I think this album is a little underrated.
7. Omnium Gatherum
The Dripping Tap is incredible and might be my favourite Gizz songs overall, but the album overall suffers a little from feeling a little unfocused and overlong, there are still song great songs though like Gaia and I do like the hip hop tracks, wouldn’t be against them going more into that style on a newer release.
8. Polygondwanaland
Has a similar issue to Omnium Gatherum where I feel the opener is a really great song that the rest of the album isn’t able to live up to, but still a very solid album.
9. Paper Mache Dream Balloon
Lots of catchy songs on this album. The all acoustic sound is really nice and defintely makes the album stand out among the rest of the bands discography
Fav tracks: Sense, Trapdoor, The Bitter Boogie
10. Flight b741
Lots of really catchy songs, do like the bluesy sound of the album, the trading vocals of the album do give it a nice bit of variety on that front.
11. Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava
Nice sounding jammy/jazzy album, A lot of the songs do feel like they blend together a little to me though.
12. Laminated Denim
Hypertension is a pretty great song, feels similar in concept to Quarters but a little more consistent.
Fav tracks:
13. Quarters
Really like The River, the other 3 tracks aren’t quite as good but are still pretty nice to listen to.
14. Changes
Really like the opener and the rest of the album is very nice sounding as well.
15. L.W.
Good album, Not as good as Flying Microtonal Banana but it does gain points because I do really like the microtonal sound the albums use. L.W. wins out cause the closing track is pretty great, probably the best songs on the two albums
16. K.G.
Pretty interchangeable with L.W. What’s written above applies to this album as well
17. Float Along – Fill Your Lungs
Solid album, defintely feels like the band is start into come into it’s own stylistically, Production feels like a step up from their earlier work. The opener and closer are pretty great songs.
18. Gumboot Soup
There are some good songs on here but the album does feel a little aimless due to it’s nature as a collection of outtakes, The Great Chain of Being is a banger though.
19. Fishing for Fishies
It’s alright.
20. The Silver Cord
Nice sounding album but it feels like there’s an ideal version of it that doesn’t exist unfortunately, the short version leaves a lot of the songs feeling undercooked and the longer version has a lot of them feeling like the drag on a little too long, a middle ground would’ve been great.
21. Sketches of Brunswick East
Probably my least listened to albums of theirs. Not a whole lot in it that’s very memorable but nothing outright bad either.
22. 12 Bar Bruise
Has a good energy to it and some catchy songs like Muckraker but it defintely feels the band isn’t fully formed yet. Often a little too lo fi for my taste as well with some questionable production.
23. Eyes Like The Sky
I like the concept and the narration can be pretty cool but the accompanying music isn’t super interesting a lot of the time and the production can make it hard to actually make out what the narrator is saying a lot of the time.
24. Butterfly 3000
Pleasant sounding album but I don’t find any of the songs on it particularly memorable.
25. Oddments
Album full of outtakes and I think that shows, not a big fan of how the album sounds as well. Can be noisy and lo fi sounding in a pretty obnoxious way in some songs, Vegemite for example is just an annoying sounding song.
26. Made in Timeland
Probably the only King Gizz album I don’t really like at all, most of it just sounds dull and the songs feel like they lack any real structure. I know it was originally just meant to be a bonus that would be given to people who attended a festival which probably explains why it doesn’t feel like they put a huge amount of thought into it.
